The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

¾ Cup butter, softened
1 Cup white sugar
2 eggs
½ tsp Vanilla extract
1/8 tsp Almond extract
2 ½ cups flour
1 tsp baking power
½ tsp salt


1. Cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs, vanilla and Almond extract. Stir in the flour, baking power and salt. Divide dough into two balls rap with plastic rap and chill for one hour or over night.
2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Roll out dough on floured surface ¼ to ½ inch thick. Cut into shapes. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
3. Bake 8 minutes. Cool completely on wire rack.
4. Frost with “Butter cream Icing.”


Butter Cream Icing

¼ cup butter flavored shortening
¼ cup butter
½ tsp vanilla extract
1/8 tsp almond extract
2 cups powered sugar
1/12 Tbsp milk

Cream together butter, shortening, vanilla, almond extract and food coloring.
Blend in sugar. Beat in milk, continue mixing until light and fluffy.
